Ruby needed us and she need us quickly! Meet Ruby. She was approximately 5 years old at the time of her injury. Someone initially found her and called animal control. Animal control took her to a vet near Athens, GA due to significant injury. It was then determined that the reason she wasn’t walking was because she had a fracture in her pelvis. To make matters worse, her hip was dislocated. We assume she was most likely hit by a car and left on the side of the road. Poor baby! She officially entered a wonderful rescue to ensure she was cared for and had a chance at finding a loving home. The rescue searched for an owner, yet no owner surfaced. That was not surprising because she was found in an area where many dogs are dumped. Heartbreaking!!! Ruby needed surgery as soon as possible. There was a vet lined up to perform the surgery with a successful predicted outcome of her walking once again. The rescue worked diligently to raise funds for Ruby’s surgery, yet there remained a lack of needed funds. Because of the severity and nature of the fracture, her leg could not safely and effectively be placed back into the socket. The plan was to put a plate in and remove the femoral head of her leg that was out of socket. With the help of Meg’s Village, Ruby’s surgery was scheduled and was a huge success. She began walking almost immediately post surgery. Our hearts were full seeing her run and play. Ruby was adopted and is now set to have a loving and caring life moving forward. Meg’s Village raised $2117 by 1/25/2022 which was applied to Ruby’s surgical bill. Our sincere thanks for all the donations to Meg’s Village and to Colbert Veterinary Rescue Services to taking great care of Ruby and for seeing her through to a happy future.
Will

Will…Who is Will you ask? Will was a dog victim of horrific abuse. There is strong evidence that Will was set on fire. Deep breath…Yes, take a moment to try to process that as I did and continue to. Will was found in flames. Luckily, he was found and the fire was put out. A wonderful rescue stepped up to care for Will. He received 24/7 veterinary attention because his injuries were quite critical and extensive. He remained in good spirits by everyone rallying around him at the vet’s office, praying, donating, and those in spirit (Meg). Meg’s Village worked hard behind the scenes to put some things in place so that we were help help fund Will’s vet expenses.
Rest assured that an investigation is being done. Because the case remains under investigation many details cannot be released. We hope and pray the criminal who committed the horribly abusive crime will be arrested.
When I originally contacted the vet’s office and the rescue organization to introduce Meg’s Village, our mission, and our intentions, the response on the other line was, “Oh, wow. Oh, thank you.” I responded in tears saying thank you for allowing us to be an extra resource to fund Will’s needs. Thank you for letting us continue to love Meg and honor her by helping rescue dogs like her.
On 1/13/2022, Meg’s Village contributed $4000 towards Will’s vet expenses. By the end of January 2022, Meg’s Village directly covered a grand total of $6000 of Will’s vet bills thanks to donations. We thank each and every one of you for being a part of Meg’s Village so we could be a part of Will’s Village. Thank you to Dog Days Rescue for helping Will and for coordinating each and every step on his road to recovery.
Will’s recovery was up and down and unstable at times, yet he went on to thrive and heal and was one happy and appreciate sweetie pie.
Will, Our hearts will forever ache for you. We care. We love you. We are always here for you.
Shuri

We are yet again reminded of why Meg’s Village came to be and what it continues to become. Meet Shuri. Oh my, she reminds me of Meg in so many ways! Shuri was found starved (emaciated!). Her paw was mangled. Her nails and pads of her paw were ripped off (or bitten off). There was mention of her possibly being caught in a trap or chewing her way to freedom, or possibly both. Perhaps it is often a blessing to not know they full story of these sweet babies victim of neglect/abuse. It’s so heartbreaking! Shuri was anemic and heart worm positive. She gained her tripaw super powers after a required a front leg amputation. Shuri had the most amazing foster mom named Abigail who loved her and saw her through to her wonderful forever home. Meg’s Village raised $1461 that went directly to help pay her vet bills on 11/10/2021. Shuri was rescued by Barkville Dog Rescue.
Chandler

*Update: Meg’s Village raised $2350 for Chandler. The funds were applied to her emergency vet care on 4/16/2021.
Please don’t look away. Please read until the end and consider donating.
Rescue isn’t easy. It’s not easy for so many reasons. It is hard to see these pitiful dogs and their pictures. It’s hard to be the one who is hands on and picking them up with many questions and emotions. The unknown can be scary. It’s hard not having enough funding to help those in need. It’s really hard to post this picture, but the reality is that it’s real. Chandler was left sick to die on the side of the road. A wonderful lady and her daughter found Chandler. She was rescued by Barkville Dog Rescue. Chandler survived surgery for a blockage and received wonderful vet care with so much continued hope on the horizon.
I remember the first day I met Meg. I’d never seen such horrific starvation in person. It didn’t seem real, yet somehow was. I could only pet her head. It was the only part of her that wasn’t pure skin and bones. I tried not to look beyond her eyes. I was starting the leave and she stood between the door and I and then forced herself to sit in my lap. I had to close my eyes to touch her body. She was beautiful and so sweet, such a heart of gold. With time I was able to slowly open my eyes. It wasn’t about me not wanting to see the degree of damage or the amount of her suffering. It was about me getting over myself and being her person to help her in her time of need. That day she began to teach me what rescue really is and in return she rescued me in so many ways. Her purpose was so great. And here we are…Meg and I still doing this thing called rescue. And so, I see this picture of Chandler and my heart sinks and I lose my breath. It’s not easy, but rather an honor to try to help rescue dogs like Meg. In a world where some aren’t kind I find that so many others are.
Chandler went on to win the heart of her foster family. They are now proud foster fails in the most wonderful way. She lives with her family which includes other dogs and happily races around with them as if she wasn’t once the hopeless and nearly lifeless dog in the pictures left on the side of the road.
Chandler reminds us to never look away, but rather look closer and harder. If one looks away they become helpless and hopeless to those desperately needing to be seen.
Jessie

*Update: Meg’s Village raised $625 for Jessie. The funds were applied to her vet bill on 4/16/2021 on behalf of BarkVille Dog Rescue.
Oh, sweet Jessie…When I look at this picture I find myself flooded with many tears and memories of the days and months following Meg’s amputation. So many memories! Welcome to life as a tripaw. I assure you it’s amazing and inspiring. Us humans sure can learn a few of life’s greatest lessons from precious ones adapting to life on 3 paws. I know I sure did and am forever grateful! Meg continues to inspire me each and every day!
Jessie had her leg amputated. She was discovered with her leg broken so badly that It simply could not be saved. Thankfully, BarkVille Dog Rescue rushed to her side and helped her and so did Meg’s Village. Meg’s Village was established in honor of Meg and for dogs just like Jessie. Love always prevails!
Adela and Her Puppies
*Update: Meg’s Village raised $1510 for Adela and her puppies. The funds were applied to her vet bill on behalf of BarkVille Dog Rescue.
Meet sweet Adela and her puppies Alfie, Gracie, and Tommy. Aren’t they all precious! Adela had 7 puppies. Unfortunately, by the time BarkVille Dog Rescue was notified 4 puppies had not survived. BarkVille Dog Rescue was able to rescue Adela and her surviving 3 puppies.
They were found in North Georgia where their living conditions were unimaginable. They were found in a make shift shed sheltering under scrap cars and mounds of trash. They had water, yet it was in a cold, muddy bucket with a Round up sprayer in it (how absolutely awful!). Neither Adela nor her puppies had any veterinary care until rescued by BarkVille Dog Rescue. Because of their horrible living situation and a lack of care, they all had worms, mange, etc. They received treatment for mange, were de-wormed, and spayed and neutered. Poor Tommy had a rough time and his eyes became swollen shut. Mama Adela battled awful kennel cough and struggled to keep herself alive to care for her puppies. Adela was adopted to a family who adores her as were her puppies.
Brooks

Meet Brooks
Update: Meg’s Village raised over $1000 for Brooks. The funds were applied to his vet specialist fees.
Brooks was a stray until a couple days ago. He was found roaming around a neighborhood. The neighborhood quickly became his village offering support by monitoring his location on their neighborhood Facebook page. They posted flyers and searched for his possible owner online. After a week or more a neighbor was able to safely catch him. Two wonderful ladies came forward to help. They named him Brooks after the neighborhood (how cute!). One of the kind ladies took him to the vet to check for a microchip, have his health assessed, and necessary services administered. As you can guess, he had many obstacles to overcome. He was underweight, needed to be neutered, had confirmed parasites, and the list goes on. Abuse was suspected as he suffered facial trauma resulting in a broken jaw and bruised eyes. The vet did not suspect an animal attacked him, but rather abuse most likely from being hit and/or kicked in the face by a human. It is unknown when the abuse occurred and how long he was suffering. Brooks was estimated to be approximately 2-3 years old when rescued. He quickly found a wonderful and patient human and forever home. he is loved beyond measure!
